One of our customers built a website with information of interest to the general public and installed our large touch screens in public venues for people to use surfing his website. This is an interesting way to create software applications for touch screens.
A touch screen with an Atom processor PC inside is completely silent and capable of surfing the internet as well as operating the touch mechanism itself. The website is the software. The touch screen’s browser lets you open as many windows as you want so you can switch back and forth through the information like CNN on election night.
Touch screens can have internal PCs with more power to run different software applications. Our touch screens support “multi-touch” so you can create applications where you can use two fingers and open a box. We get calls from people thinking of touch screens like large I-phones which they can be if you have software applications to do what you need. The most common applications we work with for large screens are custom building directories which can have way finding maps to direct visitors.
Web surfing however doesn’t need any custom software; just the browser that is built into the operating system. The touch screen can then do anything the website can do including data collection using an onscreen keyboard or any other web function.
